CEE department takes charge of the Larson Transportation Institute

1/8/2016

As of January 1, the Thomas D. Larson Pennsylvania Transportation Institute (LTI) has been transferred from the Penn State College of Engineering to the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE).

Since this transition comes in tandem with director Martin Pietrucha stepping down, Patrick J. Fox, head of civil and environmental engineering, will serve as interim director until a new director is named. An internal/external search for a new director is currently underway.

“I want to repeat my sincere thanks to Martin Pietrucha for his amazing effort and leadership of LTI over the years,” said Amr Elnashai, dean of the College of Engineering. “I know that he will continue to be an invaluable resource to the Institute, his CEE department and to the College.”

LTI is Penn State’s transportation research center. Since its founding in 1968, it has maintained a threefold mission of research, education and service. The Institute brings together top faculty, world-class facilities and enterprising students from across the University in partnership with public and private stakeholders to address critical transportation-related problems.
