Fox presented Best-of-Journal Paper on geosynthetics in Miami

04/29/2016

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Patrick Fox, Shaw Professor and Head of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Penn State, presented his Best-of-Journal Paper at the 3rd Pan-American Conference on Geosynthetics, held in Miami in April.

The paper titled, Geomembrane damage due to static and cyclic shearing over compacted gravelly sand, was published in the journal Geosynthetics International in October 2011.

The paper was chosen as Best-of-Journal for presentation at the conference by the organizing committee, and provides new experimental data on damage to geomembrane liners caused by interface shear with coarse (i.e., gravelly) soil subgrades.

Fox has been a member of the International Geosynthetics Society (IGS), which sponsored the conference, since 1998 and a member of the editorial boards of both IGS journals – Geosynthetics International and Geotextiles and Geomembranes. He also won the highest research award given by the society, the IGS Award, in 2008.

IGS is the world’s leading scientific society devoted to research, design and construction using geosynthetic materials.
